Product Introduction of Austrian OMICRON CMC 356 Universal Relay Protection Test Set:
•CMC 356 universal relay protection test instrument and commissioning tool
•The goal of CMC356 is to better meet the commissioning and maintenance requirements of modern substations and relay protection devices. It provides new means for test applications with very high CT and power requirements.
•The special feature of CMC356 is its high-power current source with excellent dynamic output range. At the same time, it integrates three-phase testing functions for large-load electromechanical relays and the newer IEC 61850 technology in one test device, which is a good response to many challenges in today's protection testing field. The function of injecting primary current from the test device to check the wiring and reliability of current transformers is highly appreciated by commissioning engineers.

Application Fields of Austrian OMICRON CMC 356 Universal Relay Protection Test Set:
•Relay protection testing
For the safe and reliable operation of today's power systems, relay protection systems play an important role. The normal operation of protection equipment helps maintain the safe operation of the power system and protects equipment from damage. To ensure reliable operation, relays and reclosing controllers must be tested throughout their entire service life, from initial development to manufacturing, commissioning, and regular maintenance during operation.
For all these phases of the life cycle and in any environment, our test equipment is an ideal tool. As a reliable long-term partner, we provide users with test solutions for new technologies and continuously maintain and develop them, enabling users to meet the increasingly complex requirements of the system.
•Measuring equipment testing
The functional and accuracy testing of power system measuring equipment is either required by mandatory standards or regulations, or is part of existing quality assurance concepts. For various types of measuring equipment, such as power quality measuring devices, energy meters, or transducers, valid measurement values can only be provided after proper calibration. Calibration is carried out during the development process, type testing, and commissioning. At all stages of these processes, system operators must regularly test them to ensure their reliability. For all these application areas, we can provide multifunctional, portable, and high-accuracy test solutions.
•Power system automation communication
IEC 61850 is an international standard for communication between devices in substations, defining communication between intelligent electronic devices (IEDs). This standard defines a common data model for IED devices and a complete engineering process. The IEC 61850 standard has had a significant impact in the field of relay protection engineering, and a large number of operating substations have adopted this standard. From the very beginning, major relay manufacturers worldwide have used our equipment to perform performance testing of IEC 61850 devices and to demonstrate device interoperability. In this field, we have always maintained a leading position, providing a wide range of advanced IEC 61850 test tools for relay protection engineers in substations or laboratories.
Accessories for Austrian OMICRON CMC 356 Universal Relay Protection Test Set:
•ARC 256x arc flash initiator
Used to detect arcs that occur during short circuits in switchgear
The arc flash protection system is designed to detect arcs that occur during short circuits in switchgear, shorten the duration of the arc, and cut off the energy source of the arc to reduce potential harm to personnel and equipment.
To test such protection, the ARC 256x arc flash initiator simulates an arc through a xenon tube, very similar to a camera flash. During testing, this accessory of the CMC is placed close to the arc flash sensor. It is connected via a 6 m (19.7 ft) cable to the external interface socket of the CMC test instrument, which provides both voltage and trigger signals.
•C-Shunt precision shunt
Precision shunt for measuring current
C-Shunt1 and C-Shunt10 are precision shunts for measuring current. They can be directly inserted into the binary/analog input interface of OMICRON test instruments (such as CMC or COMPANO 100).
