| Cell Description | Mouse trabecular meshwork cells are isolated from eye tissue; the trabecular meshwork is a porous ring-shaped band composed of interconnected channels, located at the junction between the transparent window at the front of the eye, the cornea, and the colored part of the eye, the iris. Spanning the angle of the anterior chamber of the eye, the trabecular meshwork is the main site for drainage of intraocular fluid. The fluid inside the eye, known as aqueous humor, flows out through the surrounding trabecular meshwork and into a series of channels collectively referred to as Schlemm's canal. Blockage can lead to increased intraocular pressure due to the accumulation of fluid within the eye. |
